Introduction of Artist
RANGRANG (Jeong Seo-yoon) seamlessly fuses the traditional Korean material of nacre (mother-of-pearl) with contemporary painting, establishing a distinctive visual language of her own. Her work explores light, color, and the intricate relationship between humanity and nature, visualizing the transformation of light through the iridescent surface of nacre.

For RANGRANG, nacre is more than a decorative elementit serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity, East and West. Its ever-shifting colors and textures, which change depending on the viewer’s angle and the surrounding light, mirror the fluid and dynamic nature of human relationships. The artist harnesses this quality to evoke the intertwined connections between people.

In her process, she layers mother-of-pearl fragments over the thick, tactile surface of oil paint, giving her canvases depth and vibrancy. This interplay between contrasting materials creates a new spatial dimension where reality and ideal, nature and artifice, converge. The act of creation thus becomes not only a visual endeavor but also a meditative and restorative process for the artist herself.

At the core of RANGRANG’s practice lies the concept of the “Algorithm of Love.” Just as countless pieces of nacre come together to form a unified image, so too is human life woven from the intricate web of relationships and choices. Through the reflective surface of nacre, these complex emotional structures are rendered visible, inviting viewers to revisit their own memories and emotions.

Her paintings ultimately seek balance and harmony. The collision and coexistence between the sheen of nacre and the density of oil paint produce a luminous equilibrium, where opposing forceslight and darkness, nature and civilization, self and otherfind resolution. Through this synthesis, RANGRANG conveys a profound message of peace and healing.
